In the years 1979-1999 The Royal Library conducted an inventory of its stacks. A list of the books that were found missing in the older collections, is here published. Some of them were known to be missing already before the 1970s.
The list of missing books comprises books printed in the period 1501–1949, chronologically arranged by year of publication. It is intended to provide antiquarian book traders and auction houses with an efficient way to establish whether a given book is listed among the books missing in the Royal Library.
In order that the published list of missing books may serve its purpose as well as possible, the library has made a critical verification of every title, and the list has been enriched with data from diverse bibliographical tools (see further in the introduction to the list).
