The Denmark Expedition 1906-08

 
In 1907 Mylius Erichsen, Høegh Hagen and Jørgen Brønlund perished on the Danmark Expedtion in the attempt to establish the existence of a possible easterly outlet for the Peary Channel in the area around Independence Bay. The bodies of Mylius Erichsen and  Høegh Hagen were never found, but in 1908 the cartographic leader of the expedition J. P. Koch found the body of Jørgen Brønlund. On him Brønlund had two sketch maps and some horizon profiles drawn by Høegh-Hagen. However, the cartographic material after the Denmark Expedition still proved insufficient for a conclusion on the question of the Peary Channel. J.P. Kochs final map of the area shows nothing of the interior of Independence Bay.
