This megillah is the only illuminated example owned by The Royal Library. On the Jewish holiday Purim the account from Ester's Book is being read, telling the story about how the Jewish people were pursued and scattered and finally saved. Over the years this story has had great influence on Jewish identity and solidarity.
Megillat Ester was acquired by The Royal Library about 1820.
