At the first concert arranged by the music society Euterpe on 18th March 1865 a prologue was recited by Andersen, who in this way demonstrated a rather progressive attitude by supporting the initiative shown by young composers to get their own and other young composers’ music performed. Here he compares the great composers to trees in a forest where the young people who had shown this initiative are the undergrowth of small plants which, however, shoot up vigorously.
