Dedication in Latin and Arabic

This Koran manuscript was sent from Leiden to Frederik III by the orientalist Theodor Petræus. The Arabic text of the dedication, which does not fully correspond to the Latin, says in translation: “This Koran is presented to the great King and widely known Prince, our Sovereign, Sultan Frederik the Third, son of Christian the Fourth, master of the two kingdoms Denmark and Norway etc. – may God let his Reign last, make his Kingdom everlasting and his Ruling Power eternal – and is sent from Holland, from the city of Leiden, by the poor, humble, and faithful servant the Gift of God [i.e. Theodor], known as the Son of the Rock [i.e. Peter’s son, Petræus] in the year 1664.”
