The barytone and Court singer Christian Hansen (1812–80) gave the first performanc, in April 1842, of one of the best known of the songs on which Andersen and Henrik Rung collaborated, “Hvor Nilen vander” (“Where the Nile waters”) with the refrain “Jeg tror, der er skønnest i Danmark” (“I think it is most beautiful in Denmark”).
