48. Four maps of Denmark. Daniae Regni Typum Potentissimo. Johannes Janssonius and Nicolaus J. Piscator. 1629-30.

The four spectacular maps of Denmark look at first glance completely alike, but they are printed with two different copper plates. Each map is surrounded by a border of pictures, showing people in various costumes. Above and beneath the map there are friezes with prospects from Danish and northern German towns, portraits of Christian IV, his son Frederik Christian and Tycho Brahe as well as engravings of Kronborg, Uranienborg and the Danish royal coat of arms. The map is dedicated to Christian IV and undoubtedly also meant as a tribute to the late famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.

All the maps are fine copper engravings and one is moreover beautifully decorated by hand. The maps are published as loose sheets without any text on the reverse side.
