35. Works for jazz band. Bernhard Christensen. App. 1930-40
The composer Bernhard Christensen (1906-2004) was instrumental in making jazz music not only loved but also 'acceptable' in Denmark in the 1930s. Many of his 'swinging' works were composed directly for children and the young as a pedagogic entry to the new music form - jazz.
The Royal Library has got many of this pioneer's manuscripts, including a number of works for jazz band. These works are in such poor condition that several of them - without swift preservation action - will perish.
