10. Hebrew bible from 'The Arabian Journey'. App. 1460.
This Hebrew bible is one of the treasures in the Judaica collection. It was acquired during Carsten Niebuhr's Arabian expedition 1761-1767 by C.F. von Haven. It is quite unique in that it can be proved that it has played a role in several of the more important events in the history of science. The manuscript is in three volumes, with an appertaining travel bag containing notes from the English researcher Benjamin Kennicott's studies of text traditions of the Hebrew bible.
The three volumes are beautifully illuminated in colours and on almost every page Masorah (critical comments, from the 600s to 900s) appear, written in very fine micrographic writing in different patterns, plats, flowers etc. in the so-called Arabian Carpet Style.
