The opening of J.P. Jacobsen’s (1847-1885) short story Mogens – beginning with the words “Sommer var det; midt paa Dagen; i et Hjørne af Hegnet” (Summer it was, in the middle of the day, at a corner of the preserve) – is shown here in various drafts along with a printed edition from 1882. Mogens was published for the first time in 1872 in Nyt dansk Maanedsskrift (New Danish Monthly).
