Among the manuscripts that the Icelandic Bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson presented to Frederik III, was the Flatø Book from the 14th century. It contains a series of Norwegian royal sagas. The Flatø Book was returned to Iceland in 1971, but the Royal Library owns a translation made by the young Icelander Tormod Torfæus about 1660 at the request of Frederik III. The four volumes were beautifully bound with Frederik III’s monogram in gold on the front covers.

31.2 x 20.3 cm.
