This is a 15th century block book containing text and illustrations of the Revelation of Saint John. A block book is a book printed from wooden blocks on which the text and illustration for each page had to be cut by hand. The oldest block books are from the first half of the 15th century. The technique was a precursor of Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable lead types in the middle of the 15th century. However, block books were still produced in the early 16th century.
