The New Testament in Chinese in a so-called imperial edition. The translation is done in a Chinese literary style. It is to be read from the top and downwards and from right to left. The third illustration from the right shows the Gospel According to St. John, chapter 3 i.a. containing verse 16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (column 9-10 from right to left).
