Coloured, anonymous drawing from the 18th century.
The Danish colony of the West Indies consisted of three islands in the Caribbean, St. Thomas, St. Jan, and St. Croix. The colony was founded in 1672 and prospered in the 18th century when slavery formed the basis of a profitable plantation business. The harbour in the picture became a centre of commerce in the Caribbean in the 18th century.
