Greenland |
“The Apostle of Greenland”, the Norwegian-born clergyman and missionary to Greenland 1721-1736 Hans Egede, in 1723 and 1724 made two journeys in order to explore the west coast of Greenland. The object of the journey was to find information about the ancient Norse settlements, and at the same time it gave the opportunity to sketch the coastline.
Egede left Greenland in 1736, and after his return to Denmark he had this map drawn and published the book Relation, about the Beginning and Continuation
of the Greenland Missions in which he described his many initial difficulties.
