This small textbook of geography is written in Greenlandic by Samuel Kleinschmidt (1814-1886), who spent his life in Greenland as a missionary, teacher, and philologist. Apart from other school-books – on zoology and history – Kleinschmidt published a grammar (in German) of the Greenlandic language, a Greenlandic dictionary, and his own translations of most of the Biblical texts. He was a pioneer in the study of Greenlandic and in the establishment of a standard of written Greenlandic.
