The beginning of the novel

Johannes V. Jensen’s (1873-1950) novel Kongens Fald (The Fall of the King) is about the peasant’s son Mikkel Thøgersen who ends up as a servant to the imprisoned King Christian II in the 1540’s. In this early draft – which also contains a sketch of Copenhagen anno 1520 – it is noticeable that the principal character Mikkel Thøgersen is called Jesper Petri. Kongens Fald was published for the first time as a trilogy in 1900-1901.

22 x 14.2 cm.
