Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) wrote this diary on his first journey abroad, to the Harz in 1831. It contains lively portrayals of people, places, and his own moods accompanied by his own sketches. “Ved Solens Opgang blev vor Vogn pyntet med grønne Grene” (At sunrise our carriage was decorated with green branches), he recounts from Lüneburg.
The diary formed the basis of the travel book Skyggebilleder af en Reise til Harzen (Silhouette of a Journey to the Harz), which was published later that year. The diary, together with other Andersen manuscripts belonging to his benefactor Jonas Collin, was given to the Royal Library in 1905.

20.5 x 13 cm.
