The equestrian statue of King Frederik V at Amalienborg Palace Square is the work of the French sculptor J.F.J. Saly (1717-1776). It was commissioned by the Asiatic Company in 1752.
This drawing depicts the moment when, on August 16th 1768 at 5.30 pm, the statue has been hoisted onto its base, and the crowd rejoices. The scene is seen from Schack’s Palace.
The drawing is attributed to Peter Cramer (1726-1782) and is made with pen and India ink with wash drawing.
