Map of King Christian VI’s journey through Norway.
As King of the Danish-Norwegian double monarchy Christian VI in 1733 embarked on an extensive journey through Norway. With an entourage of more than 180 persons he travelled through Gudbrandsdalen to Trondhjem and southwards along the coast to Larvik – more than 3,000 km. Everywhere he let himself be seen by the local people; he also brought his field chancellery with him.
