Terrestrial globe. 1764.
Department of Maps, Prints, and Photographs, Globe room
Terrestrial globe made by C.F. Stender, who was a theologian, a geographer, and a philologist. In 1764 he made two big terrestrial globes at the order of King Frederik V, with a diameter of 92 cm – in Stender’s view an ideal measure for globes. C.F. Stender was born in Kurland and spent four years in Copenhagen, where he taught at the University and wrote textbooks.
The globe stand is elaborately equipped with information on the use of the globe, e.g. a calendar.
The globe is 92 cm in diameter.
