This machzor (holiday prayer book), which is part of a two-volume set, was written in Merano, Italy in the year 1506. It contains the prayers for the Sabbath and the holidays, and throughout the volume, the opening words of prayers and benedictions are decorated in blue and red.
It was originally written by “Samson, the son of Elijah … the Frenchman” for one Eliezer ben Menachem, and due to annotations in the volumes, we know the names of several other owners from the 16th to the 18th century. The work was acquired by the Royal Library in 1923.
