The binding in the leather bag

Parchment manuscript from 19th century Ethiopia. It contains a Christian text about the life and deeds of the monk Tekla Hāymānōt in the Abyssinian Church in the beginning of the 7th century. The manuscript is bound in a wooden binding and placed in a leather bag with two compartments. Originally the leather strap was longer so that one could shoulder the bag during transport. Now the strap can be used as a handle.

13.5 x 21 cm.
