The English explorer John Ross (1777-1856) tried to find the Northwest Passage to Asia round the north of America as the Danish polar explorer Jens Munk had 200 years before him. Ross did not succeed either, but among his many results was the discovery of the magnetic North Pole.
The luxurious binding of this copy with the crowned monogram of King Christian VIII ((b. 1786) 1839-1848) on the spine is made by Harald Hendrik Rasmussen.
