Mogens Pedersøn is considered the most significant Danish composer at the Court of King Christian IV ((b. 1577) 1588-1648). After travels to Italy and England he worked at the Court in Copenhagen where he was appointed vice-conductor in 1618. Two years later he published his principal work Pratum Spirituale which consists of a number of Danish hymns in five-part arrangements, a five-part mass, three motets, and Danish and Latin responses. On ceremonious occasions the collection has been used at Court and in town churches, where it was sung by pupils of the local Latin schools (“grammar schools”).
Pratum Spirituale is dedicated to the composer’s pupil, the Prince Elect Christian (who died in 1647, one year before his father Christian IV).

18.9 x 14.8 cm.
