Among the very first books printed in Denmark is this missal for the High Mass, printed by the German printer Stephan Arndes in Schleswig.
Missale Slesvicense is considered an early masterpiece in Danish printing. It is a beautiful folio printed in black and red. The elegant blackletter types reflect the Italian style and are probably cut by Arndes himself. The large initials are drawn by hand. Four copies, none of them complete, are known today, two of which are in the Royal Library.
This copy is bound in brown leather decorated with flowers.
