Eljakim Jacob Soldin (before 1770 - after 1813) was one of the advocates for the Jewish Enlightenment movement (the haskalah) in Copenhagen. He wrote on different educational topics, but is also known to have written a number of poems to members of the royal families in Denmark and Sweden. The work Shomer `emunim (a phrase quoted from Is. 26:2) is a discussion in dialogue form between a rabbi and a pupil, on the tenets of Judaism. Similarly to Soldin’s other works it was printed, with his own or with borrowed types, in established non-Jewish printing offices. The work is one of the earliest Hebrew prints directed at a Jewish audience, printed in Denmark proper (i.e. excl. Schleswig-Holstein).
