The Danish naval officer Frederik Ludvig Norden (1708-1742) participated in a great expedition to Egypt and Nubia under the direction of the Frenchman d’Esneval in 1737-1738. On his way up the Nile Norden kept a diary, copied monuments and sketched maps. Later his drawings were engraved by C.M. Tuscher, and they were published in this magnificent travel account that includes his notes from the expedition.
