Title page Portrait of Tycho Brahe P. 49: Table of the position
of the stars

The castle of Uraniborg on the island of Hven was the setting for the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe’s (1546-1601) astronomical studies. Here he wrote his pathbreaking works, and here he also established a paper mill, a printing press, and a bookbindery. This book holds a collection of letters on astronomy that Tycho Brahe exchanged with Landgrave Wilhelm of Hessen (1532-1592) and with Christopher Rothmann (c. 1550-1605), astronomer of the Landgrave.
This copy is bound in green satin with ribbons of the same colour and golden ornaments. On the front as well as the back cover there is an outer frame of leaves and an inner frame with rosettes in the corners. In the middle of the front cover a portrait of Tycho Brahe is seen and on the back cover his coat of arms.

24.8 x 18.1 cm.
